MAT NOTES:


     Brentwood (20-1) defeated Sachem North (8-8), 43-13, before a loud and partisan crowd at the host Brentwood "Coach Gov. Joe Campo" gymnasium. The League I dual meet champions were led by sophomore standout Jason Kwaak (132) who posted a first period fall with a tight bar-arm stack and upped his record to 27-1.

     Also posting pins for the Indians were junior Jason Euceda (25-2) at 110 and Julien Perez (22-5) in the 189-pound bout. Senior Kendricks Pellici (29-4) had a solid 7-2 verdict at 118 pounds.

     Sachem North was paced by senior JT Mankowich (24-5) who blanked his opponent with an 8-0 shutout at 138 pounds and Anthony Vecchio with a close 2-0 decision over a tough foe at 152 pounds.


      Brentwood will face rival Patchogue-Medford in the semifinals on Saturday at Bay Shore HS scheduled to start at 12 PM. The Indians edged Pat-Med, 33-23, in an earlier January dual meet. That winner will meet the winner of top-seeded East Islip (24-0) vs Connetquot in the other semifinal. The Division I championship finals are slated for a 3PM start. In the Division II final, John Glenn will be pitted against Port Jefferson, who upset defending champions SWR, 33-32, to advance to the county final.


     The respective dual meet champions will both advance to the NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Championships at the SRC Arena in Syracuse, on Saturday, January 29th.
