MAT NOTES :

Defending Suffolk County dual and tournament champion East Islip HS (11-4) defeated  League VI contender Sayville HS (9-6), 54-12, in a great rivalry dual meet on Senior Night at East Islip HS. The Redmen were led by top-ranked Anthony Avitabile (29-1), a county bronze medalist at 152, along with Rocco DeStefano (26-3) at 108 and tough Nicholas Groneman (27-2) in the 215-pound class. Head coach Mike Longobardi recently claimed their13th league title and has veteran assistant coach Joe Esposito, they will have their EI squad ready for the upcoming Suffolk County Dual Meet Championships next weekend.


Sayville HS was paced by freshman and returning league finalist Javen Taff (16-5) who converted his front headlock for a series of takedowns in his 190-pound bout and league placer, talented Carter White (16-2) who posted a first period pin at 285 pounds. Sayville won the 2022 Suffolk County Championships and has able assistant, older brother Frank Esposito for the Golden Flashes. They have a formidable squad and will challenge for the League VI title.

East Islip's Ty Strychalsky used a late take down to defeat Sayville's Jack Razzano 5-4 at 101 pounds.

East Islip's Dylan Aristides, a returning League V champion, picked up the fall at 131 pounds.

East Islip's Nick Groneman, a League V runner-up, turns this take down into a first period pin at 215 pounds.

East Islip's Anthony Avitabile works for his fall. The top ranked Avitabile moved up to 152 pounds and picked up a second period pin and improved to 29-1 on the year.

East Islip's Rocco DeStefano (26-3) secured a first period fall at 108 pounds.

Sayville's Tim Holahan put the Golden Flashes on the board with an 8-5 decision at 116 pounds,
