Mat Notes:

The reigning top team in the Empire State Long Beach HS (11-0) recently won the Massapequa Holiday Tournament, the UE Duals and the Eastern States Classic (which many experts feel might be tougher than the NYS Tournament). The Marines crowned two champions, three-time state king Jacori Teemer (132) and unbeaten Elijah Rodriguez (21-0) at 195 pounds, both are juniors. Other ESC placers included Matt Maquet (6th at 132), Charlie Spada (5th) and Tyrese Byron (7th), both at 152, along with state medalist tough Tyreek Bromley (8th at 182). Three-time state champion unbeaten Vito Arujau (24-0) of Syosset claimed his fourth ESC title and the Cornell-bound senior is the top-ranked 138 pounder in the nation.  Another blue-chipper Louie DePrez (26-0) of Section Five power Hilton is rated #2 in the nation at 182, he will take his mat skills to SUNY-Binghamton next year. Teemer is ranked 8th in his respective weight class. The Long Beach squad is ranked 38th in the country according to the Amateur Wrestling News.
