MAT NOTES:
Two-time NCAA champion Cornell's Yianni Diakomihalis (21-0) cruised into the semifinal round at 149, along with teammate and returrning All-American Vito Arujau (12-1) at 125. Another LI native advancing for the Big Red was Jonathan Loew (24-5) at 184 pounds. Other NY prepped wrestlers in the semifinals include; Two-time AA Lou DePrez (24-3) of Binghamton at 197 and Hofstra's Zachary Knighton-Ward (18-5) in the 285-pound class. Collectively, that elite group claimed a total of 13 New York State titles.
The finals were set for the marquee match at 125 pounds: former New Jersey state champion unbeaten Pat Glory (16-0) of Princeton will take on Vito Arujau in a bout that features nationally ranked lightweights. Arujau posted an impressive 19-6 major decision and was voted the OSW Award in the tournament. NCAA titlist Yianni Diakomihalis registered an 11-2 major decision to claim his third EIWA crown. The Big Red also garnered a championship in the 184-pound class, as junior Jonathan Loew had a solid 12-5 win over Princeton's Travis Stefanik.
