​     Cornell (3-0) blanked Hofstra (1-1), 39-0, in the 5th annual Grapple at the Garden held at historic Madison Square Garden. The eighth-ranked Big Red won all ten bouts and were paced by two-time NCAA champion Gabe Dean (121-6 career) who posted a :33 second fall in the 184-pound bout and 2015 NCAA finalist Brian Realbuto who used a barrage of takedowns and tilts en route to a dominating 21-3 tech fall at 174 pounds.
     The Pride's Vinny Vespa dropped a hotly-contested bout,14-12, to Cornell's Mark Grey at 133 and Ryan Burkhardt (Hofstra) was edged by Joey Galasso, 9-6, at 149 pounds. Hofstra bounced back in the second dual of the day with a solid 18-13 victory over George Mason. In that dual Hofstra won six bouts, including the the first two matches; Jacob Martin (7-1 at 125) and Vinny Vespa (6-3 at 133). Other top performances were turned in by Jake Kaminsky (157), Bobby Fehr (165), Sage Heller with an exciting 9-8 verdict at 174 and Nezar Haddad in the 197-pound class.
     Cornell upended #10 Rutgers, 28-10, as the Big Red won seven of the ten bouts in the dual, including a close 3-1 decision by Noah Baughman over Sean McCabe (Connetquot HS), at 125, along with key wins by Brain Realbuto (4-2 at 174) and a 16-3 major decision by Gabe Dean at 184 pounds. The Scarlet Knight's two-time All-American Anthony Ashnault (5-1) posted a 4-2 decision over Will Koll at 141 pounds.
     The Pride will return to action on Sunday, December 4th in the Journeymen-Blue and Gold Tussle Tournament at the David S. Mack Sports Complex. The seven-team tournament will begin at 9:00 AM.
