In a battle of ranked wrestlers, Logan Williamson of Sachem North is in deep on East Islip's Logan Alfalla. Williamson went on to win this tight 152 pound match 7-6.
Islip's Kevin Horner is in control winning the 145 pound bout.
Thomas Keegan of Sachem North started the scoring off for the Flaming Arrows with a fall at 124 pounds.
Sachem North's Jack Cusamano is in control at 131 pounds and posted a first period fall. Cusamano led Sachem North to a solid win over East Islip. In the final, they defeated Islip, 46-18, to win the Islip Cup.
Sachem North's Joe Marotta works for a takedown on East Islip's Noah Hodge. Marotta won this 145 pound bout 18-6 . The second ranked Sachem North squad went onto to win in the dual meet final over Islip, 46-18, and will be in the hunt for the Suffolk Dual meet title.
Islip's Cartier Perez works for a takedown en route to a decision at 131 pounds as Islip beat John Glenn at the Islip Cup.
Jack Whitehouse of Islip picked up a big win at 145 pounds.
Top ranked Christian Horeis kept East Islip in the match with a this key win at 190 pounds.
East Islip's Chris Coleman holds off Sachem North's Thomas Vecchio in a battle of one of the premier bouts of the Islip Cup. Coleman, ranked second in Suffolk County held on for the 4-2 win at 170 pounds.
MAT NOTES:
Sachem North (12-1) defeated East Islip (12-3), 39-18, in a premier dual meet amongst two of the top squads in Suffolk County at the Kris McDonald Dual Meet Tournament held at Islip HS. The other semi final saw Islip (12-7) upend Division Two power John Glenn, 41-27.
Sachem North was paced by middleweights Jack Cusamano (26-2) at 131 and Joshua Thomas (138), as both posted first period falls. In a pivotal bout of the dual, Sachem North's Joseph Marotta used a barrage on takedowns en route to an 18-6 decision at 145 pounds. At 152, in a battle of ranked wrestlers, Logan Williamson (21-2) pf Sachem North edged EI's Gryffin Alfalla, 7-6, in a very exciting and entertaining bout.
East Islip posted key wins by Rocco DeStefano (26-4) at 116 and highly regarded Vasilious Dimou (26-5) who used his snap/spin takedowns over Seamus McBreen (21-7), for a 11-6 win at 160. Other EI winners were potential county finalist Christopher Coleman (29-1) who edged tough Thomas Vecchio (20-5), 4-2, at 170 and top-ranked junior Christian Horeis (30-2) , an 8-3 winner at 190 pounds.
In the Islip dual meet victory over perennial power John Glenn, the Buccaneers were led by potential county finalist Jack Whitehouse (18-5) who posted a solid 18-5 decision at 138 pounds. Other winners for the talented Islip squad were the Nassire brothers; Spencer (160) and Aiden (190), as both posted first period pins in the dual meet.
