MAT NOTES:
Islip HS, a perennial League Six power crowned four champions en route to the league tournament title over host Sayville and Miller Place, amongst the top tier teams in the league landscape. The Buccaneers were paced by Jack Whitehouse (26-7, 103-27 career), senior Jared Spahn (29-2, 135-22), a returning county finalist at 145, top-ranked, rugged Zach Miller (32-2, 141-18) at 190 pounds, both are potential county champions, and Dominick Albertelli (30-3, 80-12) in the 285-pound class.
Host Sayville HS had a great showing with their runner-up finish and tallied three individual champions, including sophomore Ayden LaBella (30-5, 57-11), junior and returning all-county performer Leo Mongiello (33-4, 120-20) who posted four first period pins, using his patented bar-arm series en route to the 138-pound crown and tough Carter White (28-2, -27) at 285 pounds. Sayville was involved in perhaps the most exciting and entertaining match in the semi finals, as talented freshman Javen Taff (29-6, 58-22) rallied by using a low single leg and snap-spin takedowns for a 8-6 OT victory over Miller Place's Andrew Bennett-Gu in a 190-pound semi final battle.
Miller Place, finished third in the team standings and were paced by Anthony Perrino (27-4, 51-29) at 108, senior Michael Giugliano (41-3, 195-45), with an impressive 106 pins in his career at 131 pounds and highly-touted Brian Schreck (104-29) at 160 pounds.
