MAT NOTES:

      Clarion (6-3) posted a 33-6 victory over LIU-Post before a nice crowd at the Pratt Recreation Center in Upper Brookville.  LIU jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and nearly posted a fall in the 141-pound bout. The next three matches were highly competitive and involved back-and-forth battles, however the visitors from PA emerged with three key decisions for a 12-6 team lead. The final team score wasn't indicative of the ten bouts contested.

      LIU-Post defeated VMI, 28-12, in the second dual meet of the doubleheader.

     The LIU-Post Sharks have upstate New Yorker, Drew Witham (Copenhagen HS) on the roster. Witham was a two-time NYS place winner with an impressive 130-13 high school ledger. LIU-Post also have two Sayville HS products on the team, Joe LoPresti  a former Suffolk County champion and OSW Award winner, along with 2022 state meet qualifier Jamisen Colongione​.

     The Clarion Golden Eagles have two-time state placer John Worthy (Tioga HS), he compiled a 167-27 scholastic mark. In 1973, Clarion had three NCAA champions, Don Rohn (134), two-time king Wade Schalles (158) and Bill Simpson at 167 pounds.

     LIU -Post's legendary and Hall-of-Fame coach Joe Patrovich, is in his eighth year at the helm. His able assistants are Jesse Dellavecchia (East Islip), an NCAA finalist at Rider University and John Arceri, a former New York State champion from Huntington HS.

Kyle Schickel of Clarion controls Drew Witham of LIU en route to a 6-1 decision at 149 pounds.

LIU-POST LOSES TOUGH BATTLE

TO CLARION - BEAT VMI, 28-12.

In the heavyweight battle Clarion's Austin Chapman edged LIU's Aeden Begne.


 LIU's Robbie Sagaris put the Sharks on the board first with 6-3 decision at 125 pounds.

Clarion's John Worthing from New York controls LIU's TJ Franden at 174 pounds. Worthing picked up the fall and helped Clarion build an 18-6 lead.

Devin Mathews of LIU couldn't hold down Seth Kolerni of Clarion at 141 pounds, dropping a close 5-4 decision.
