MAT NOTES:
Wantagh (12-3) defeated Massapequa (15-4), 39-34, in a semifinal at the Nassau County Dual Meet Championships held at Clarke HS. The Warriors were paced by defending state champion Kyle Quinn (28-2, 115-13 career), a junior who flattened his opponent with a 18 second pin at 113 pounds. Other standouts were Jonathan Loew (30-5) who blanked Shane Gibbons, 4-0, at 99, Joe Hill (28-6) who had a 7-1 verdict at 120, Matt Langan with a 19-4 tech fall at 145 and tough Nick Vines (30-3) who used a tight bar-arm for a second period fall at 160. Massapequa had top performances from Jon Kalinglou, who recorded a 17-4 major decision at 106, Josh Brachfeld with a third period fall at 182, George O'Mahoney (28 wins) with a pin at 220 and all-county Tim Gungor (27-1) who tossed his opponent for a :24 second pin in the 285- pound class.
MacArthur (23-6) edged Plainedge (23-4) in an exciting semi that was decided in the last bout. The Generals were led by state finalist Steve Schneider (38-1, 158-24 career) who clamped his foe with a tight cross-face cradle at the 1:01 mark at 160 pounds, along with Justin Cooksey (145), Sal Randazzo, a 2-0 winner at 160 and Ryan O'Shea who held on for a 7-3 victory at 285 pounds.
Plainedge key wrestlers were Hector Guerrero who scored with a double leg and a near fall to nip Travis Cooksey, 8-4 OT, at 113, Jake Lerner (126) with a solid 16-1 tech fall, along with Robert Ng (33-1) who posted a major 14-5 major decision at 182 and Rob Oliver (30-2) who eked out an exciting 8-6 OT win at 195 pounds.

Wantagh won their third consecutive Nassau County Dual Meet Championship and boasts a 55-3 dual meet record for the past three seasons.In other duals leading up to the Final Four, the Warriors defeated Calhoun (67-9), Seaford (54-24) and top-seeded Locust Valley (41-32).
