The Nittany Lions and the Gophers both advanced four wrestlers into the semifinal round including unbeaten David Taylor (32-0) who posted three falls at 165 and Ed Ruth (32-1). Two-time NCAA champion Tony Nelson flattened his opponent at the 1:26 mark in his 285 pound quarterfinal bout.
Oklahoma State was paced by returning NCAA champion Chris Perry (28-1) at 174 and pushed three wrestlers into the semis. New York State has two semifinalists: Brian Realbuto (Cornell) at 157 and 2012 All-American Nick Gwiazdowski (NC State) who upped his record to 41-2 at 285 pounds. True freshman Realbuto (38-7) of Cornell upset defending NCAA champion Derek St. John of Iowa with a series of single leg takedowns en route to a solid 11-4 win at 157. Other NY prepped wrestlers still alive in the consolations for All-American honors are: Stephen Dutton (141), a quartet of 165 pounders Dylan Palacio, Joe Booth, Ryan LeBlanc and Josh Veltre. Also vying for medals are Cody Reed (Binghamton) and Christian Boley (Maryland), both in the 197 pound class.
