2024 NCAA WRESTLING TOURNAMENT
UPDATES AND QUARTERFINALS
In a battle of NCAA champions Penn State's Carter Starocci blanked Virginia Tech's Mekhi Lewis 4-0 to advance into the semifinals of the NCAA Championships in Kansas City.
MAT NOTES:
There are seven returning NCAA champions in the elite field of 330 wrestlers at the 94th annual Division I Wrestling Championships and clear favorite Penn State has a pair of three-time winners.
The Nittany Lions have Carter Starocci (14-2) at 174 and unbeaten Aaron Brooks (19-0) at 197. Starocci was a two-time state champ from Erie, PA and went 96-0 in his last two years of high school. Brooks is from Hagerstown, Maryland and was both a four-time state champion and a four-time NHSCA national champion in high school, he compiled an impressive 163-2 career mark. Two-time titlist Keegan O'Toole (21-0), junior from Missouri, is the top seed in the loaded 165-pound bracket, along with David Carr (24-2), the 4th seed from Iowa State. O'Toole was a four-time Wisconsin state champion with a 160-5 ledger, while Carr won a Kentucky state title as an eighth-grader and then reeled off four Ohio state crowns, he finished with a remarkable 235-7 high school record.
Cornell's Vito Arujau (15-2, 92-9 career) from Syosset, LI, is a defending champ and MOW Award winner, he will be tested in the tough133-pound class. Arujau won four NY state titles and had a stellar 216-1 record. Two other NCAA titlists are at 174, #1 ranked Mekhi Lewis (17-0) of Virginia Tech and Michigan's Shane Griffith (16-3), both are lodged in the top tier of the bracket, along with aforementioned Starocci. Both Lewis and Griffith are former New Jersey state champions.

Jacori Teemer of Arizona State works for a takedown on Jared Franek of Iowa. Teemer won this 157 pound quarterfinal 5-2.
