MAT NOTES:

      Sayville (16-6) defeated Rocky Point, 49-22, in a League 6 showdown dual. The Golden Flashes won  nine of the 13 bouts contested and were paced by potenial county champions, Yirdaw Rivera (138) and unbeaten Mack Murtha (189). Both registered first period pins, the West Point-bound Rivera used a tight bar-arm stack for his fall and Murtha hit a lightning quick lateral drop for his stunning fall. Other pin winners for host Sayville were freshman Leo Mongiello (118), James Miller (145) and junior Cody Lopresti at 215 pounds. Sayville's venerable coach Gary Pesko, now in his 32nd year at the helm, also celebrated his birthday in fashion with a dual meet victory over rival Rocky Point on Senior Night.


     The Rocky Point Eagles were paced by highly-touted sophomore Aidan Donahue who posted a solid 12-1 major decision at 102 to opening the dual and reigning Suffolk County champion and top-ranked junior Nick Lamorte, who applied a tight half-nelson stack for his fall at 132 pounds. Head coach Darren Goldstein enters his 20th season as the Eagles legendary mat mentor.


     Veteran referee Chad Smith officiated a clean match, as outstanding sportmanship was displayed by both mat squads. Smith is now in his 30th season on the mats and is regarded as one of the top officials in both Section Eleven and New York State.

Sayville's Jamisen Colongione (29-3) is a Suffolk County contender at 152  pounds.
