In a battle of cross-town and league rivals, Sayville (League 6) edged East Islip (League 4), 35-34, in an exciting match that saw constant lead changes throughout the dual meet. The Golden Flashes won 8 of the 15 bouts contested and were led by the trio of the Lopresti brothers; Ken, who posted a solid 6-2, Cody, who scored with a key snap/spin takedown late in the second period for a hard- fought 10-8 verdict and county finalist Joe (26-2), who converted his patented front headlock ankle pick takedowns en route to a 12-7 win at 182 pounds. Other Sayville standouts were Yirdaw Rivera who used a barrage of double leg takedowns and tilts for a 15-0 tech fall at 120, Aiden White with a tight cross-face cradle pin at 126, Harry Wessels who rode his opponent for the last period for a close 3-2 pivotal win and Luca DeStefano who clamped his foe at the 3:15 mark to give host Sayville (6-6) a 29-22 lead in the team score.
The Redmen were paced by the Shayew brothers; Justin with a 12-1 major decision at 99 and Mark who scored with a late scramble takedown and eked out a 7-6 win at 145. Other top performances were turned in by Nick Vetrano, a solid 10-6 victory at 145 and highly-regarded Nick Agresta (21-2), a forfeit win at 195, along with two first period pins; Sebastian Regis (220) and Rich Lawrence in the 285-pound class.
