SUFFOLK FINALISTS
Josiah Lors (40-1) of William Floyd posted an 8-1 decision in the 215 pound final. He became Floyd's first county champ in 20 years when the head coach was Terry Phelan. He helped the Colonials to an 8th place team finish.
Austin Bronco Campsey (31-2) of
East Hampton posted a solid 6-1 win over Connor Sheridan (19-5) to win the 108 pound crown.
Hauppauge sophomore Trevor Patrovich (24-2), posted a 4-0 win over Chase Phillips (39-3) in the loaded 101-pound bracket. Patrovich won the weight and earned the MOW Award. His father, Mike, was a 2001 state champion at Islip HS and a two-time NCAA All-American at Hofstra. Trevor's grandfather, National Hall-of-Fame coach, Joe Patrovich, was a 177-pound Nassau County champion for Farmingdale HS in 1973. It's rare, but, Joe won his county title in Nassau (Farmingdale) and his three sons, Joe Jr. (Connetquot), Mike and Ryan (both Islip) won their titles in Suffolk. The Patrovich family now has ten county champ titles, and as Joe Sr. alluded: "Tyler winning the county was special."
Looking back, another name in wrestling accomplished a similar feat. The Doherty family from Amityville, saw brothers, Richard (134 pounds) and George (155) win Suffolk titles in 1949. Richard would later coach at Berner HS, and his sons, Matt (1981) and Chris (1982) won Nassau titles.
The first father-son combo to win Suffolk County titles were the Devine's (Amityville). In 1939 Wilbur Sr. won the 165-pound title and his son, Wilbur Jr. won at 128 pounds in 1962.
Sachem North's Valdey Pierre works for his takedown on Jacob Snedeker from Bellport. Pierre won this 285 pound semifinal.
Jason Kwaak (38-0, 155-8 career) from Brentwood had a 17-2 decision in the finals. Kwaak is the top rated 160-pounder in the state.

Division I will be a very tight race with Connetquot, Sachem North, Hauppauge, Smithtown East and Smithtown West as viable contenders. Also look for Lindenhurst, Commack, Brentwood, Patchogue-Medford to be in the hunt. Legendary coach Bill Santoro and the Connetquot squad has a solid lineup that could put a lot of wrestlers on the podium but League Two nemesis Sachem North will try to match that output. Hauppauge is led by defending county champ and state placer Connor Sheridan a senior at 108 pounds. Smithtown East has top ranked 116 pound senior, returning county placer Dylan Reinard leading the charge for them. Lindenhurst has two top ranked wrestlers, defending county champ and state finalist Anthony Severino (38-1) a junior at 131 pounds and senior 285 pounder and top-seede Chase Frole. The Golden Flashes have potential state finalist in Leo Mongiello (40-1,181-33 career) and all-county sophomore Javen Taff (31-4) at 215.
