2023 SUFFOLK COUNTY DUAL MEET ​

PORT JEFFERSON 32-27​​​​​


Top ranked and unbeaten Tom Aiello moved up to the 110 pound weight class and won 24-7 to help lead John Glenn to the Division II Suffolk County Dual Meet Championships.

MAT NOTES:

     John Glenn (14-6) defeated Port Jefferson (6-2), 32-27, before a boisterous crowd held at Bay Shore HS. The dual meet featured a multitude of back-and-forth bouts with numerous lead changes in this highly competitive dual meet. To illustrate the closeness of this dual, John Glenn won seven matches and Port Jeff had six bouts in their favor. It was a hotly-contested battle before two outstanding teams.


     JG was paced by undefeated sophomore Tommy Aiello (24-0) who was embroiled in an action-packed and high scoring bout. Aiello used a series of bar arms to emerge with a 24-7 decision over tough Nick Rodriguez (PJ) in their 110-pound bout.


     Other other PJ standouts were Nick Comito who edged Dylan Bulger, 2-0, at 145 pounds. Liam Rogers (160) who had a solid 10-4 decision and Willy Rodriguez, a defending Division Two county titlist, who escaped with a 5-3 OT victory against Malcom Chavez at 215.


     John Glenn also had wins via first period falls by Anthony Mirando (25-1) at 126 and the clinching pin by Kevin Vides in the final bout at 152 pounds.


     The Knight's last county dual title was in 2015. Head coach T.J. Brocking and  veteran assistant Ryan Patrovich have their young team back on path for future championships.
