Semifinal Mat Notes:
John Glenn (20-1) was led by Brandon Aviles (31-1) who moved up a weight class and defeated highly-regarded Francisco Bisono, 10-5, at 170 pounds. Other standouts were Zach Ancewicz (24-6) at 126,Chris Bosco (195), and pin winners - Anthony Pino (220) and county champion Edwin Rubio (28-0) at 285. Hauppauge won the first two bouts as John Donahue (27-3) defeated Matt Porello, 8-5, and defending state champion Chris Mauriello (34-2, 196-20 career) scored with a slick duck under takedown with three seconds remaining to edge tough Derek O'Brien (24-4) in the 160-pound bout. Other top performers for the Hauppauge Eagles (23-1) were freshman Jake Silverstein (106) who won his 100th match, Ben Tepperman (120) and Marcus Bisono (24-1) who used a barrage of takedowns en route to a solid 18-8 major decision at 182 pounds.
Rocky Point (19-3) rallied to defeat previously unbeaten Sachem East (23-1), in a thrilling come-from-behind team victory, 39-33, and snapped the Flaming Arrows 47-match win streak. The RP Eagles got on the scoreboard with Tommy Dutton (36-0, 249-27) as he lifted his opponent and secured a fall at the 3:45 mark in his 160-pound bout. Other key victories were recorded by Anthony Sciotto (30-4) at 99, Anthony Cirillo (31-2) with a pin at 113, a pivotal victory by Jack Gold (29-6) with an exciting 4-2 OT win over Sachem's Doug Iadanza at 126, CJ Archer (31-2) at 132, James Matias (31-2) at 138 and Dylan Zubbara with the clinching 7-4 decision at 145 pounds. Sachem East won the first bout, as state finalist Jakob Restrepo (39-0, 161-11), the winningest wrestler in Sachem East history pinned his opponent at 4:30 in the 152-pound bout. Sachem reeled off five consecutive wins, with four via the pin route; Austin Serra (160), Dominic Pistone (195), a tight cross-face cradle by Connor Farrell (220) and Sean Dee with a 45 second pin at 285, and gave his team a comfortable 33-6 lead before the lightweight bouts. Rocky Point responded by winning the next eight bouts and emerged with an improbable 39-33 dual victory.
